How To Play Texas Hold’em
One of the most popular poker games in the world is Texas Hold’em. The reason for this is simple; it’s a great game and it’s easy to play. As with most types of poker, there are 3 different variations of betting in Texas Hold’em.
- No Limit - Each person can wager up to the amount they have on the table at the time of the bet.
- Limit - Every game and every round has a set betting limit, such as $.50/$1.00 has a $.50 Blind, the first round of betting and raises is $.50 and the rounds after that are upped to $1.00 bets.
- Pot Limit - A maximum, equivalent to the total pot at the time of the bet can be wagered by each player.
Regardless of the betting type played, a game of Texas Hold’em plays out like so:
- 2 Players to the left of the dealer bet a ‘Small Blind’ and ‘Big Blind’. A blind is where you bet before seeing your hand. So on a $.50/$1.00 game it would be $.25 and $.50.
- After the blinds are in the dealer will deal 2 cards face down to each player.
- Then there is a round of betting.
- After that betting round the dealer will lay the ‘flop’. This is where they lay 3 cards face up that all the players will share.
- Then there is a round of betting.
- Now a 4th card is placed face up in the middle.
- Then there is a round of betting.
- Then the last card is placed face up along side the other shared cards.
- Then there is the last round of betting.
